James R. “Richard” Scott-Ram, 83, passed away May 24, 2017, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Richard was born in Singapore on January 18, 1934 to the late Frances (Wills) and the late Herbert Scott-Ram. Richard attended Charter House and then graduated from Cambridge University with a B.A. and M.A. in Economics. He served in both the Royal Navy and the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve. He was a career long economist at various financial institutions in Canada and New York, including Chemical Bank, Sun Life Assurance Company and World Gold Council. He was a highly respected and renowned speaker at many financial conferences around the world and was often sought after by major international media outlets.
Richard was a true distinguished English gentleman who loved to travel, learn new things and meet new people. At home, he enjoyed being with his family, playing bridge and spending time at church, serving over 30 years as an acolyte. He was an avid fan and player of tennis. He always had a newspaper nearby and was fascinated by world events, loving to discuss them with friends and family.
Richard was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Andrea, and daughter and son-in-law, Serena and Keith Lubell, and daughter, Renata. He is missed by his granddaughter, Adeline. He is also survived by his sisters, Rosemary, Jillie, Jane, and Sally Ann and his brothers, Michael and Nicholas and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to give many thanks to the wonderfully caring and dedicated aides who lovingly cared for Richard at home.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at Christ Church, 7 Elm Street, Westerly on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at 11:00 am. Calling hours are omitted.
