Burnette "Jim" J. Rickmond, Jr.November 15, 1942 ~ November 1, 2017 (age 74)
Burnette “Jim” J. Rickmond Jr., 74, of Longvue Avenue, Westerly, surrounded by his loving family passed away peacefully at the Westerly Hospital on Wednesday evening, November 1, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Margaret T. (Moscaritolo) Rickmond of Westerly, his daughter and son-in-law, Theresa A. and Christopher M. Matthews of Griswold, CT, his daughter, Deborah L. Rickmond of Westerly and his sister, Linda J. Long of Jacksonville, NC.
Mr. Rickmond was born in Roxboro, NC on November 15, 1942, the son of the late Burnette J. and Lucille (Loftis) Rickmond Sr. Jim was a Vietnam veteran who served in the United States Navy, attaining the grade of E-6 and earning the Navy Expeditionary Medal (Cuba) and the National Defense Service Medal. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Management from Johnson and Wales College and a certificate of Quality Control Management and Engineering from the University of Rhode Island. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the United States Submarine Veterans, Inc.
As a retired senior quality assurance engineer from EaglePicher Technologies LLC, formerly Yardney Technical Products, Inc., Jim worked for many years in quality assurance, developing the Quality System for Yardney. In addition, Jim was the Program manager for the Mars Program which included NASA’s Mars Exploration Rovers: The Opportunity, The Spirit and The Curiosity. Having studied under Dr. W. Edwards Deming, the father of Quality Evolution, Jim became a great mentor for so many who benefited from his guidance.
Jim was devoted to his family and friends and dedicated unlimited support, guidance, and love to all. He will always be remembered as a True Southern Gentleman, a man of great respect and kindness for all. Jim will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by many.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 from 4-7 pm at Rushlow-Iacoi Funeral Home & Crematory, 64 Friendship Street, Westerly. Burial and services with full military honors will take place at Rhode Island Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery’s Columbarium Committal Center, Exeter on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 11:00 am.
