Obituary

Charles E. Wahl, 68, of 159 Peckham Hollow Road, Charlestown, passed away after a long battle with cancer, on June 5, 2023, at the Westerly Hospital with his loving daughter Lori by his side.

He was born on August 18, 1954, in Schwabisch Gmund, Germany, to Mary Ann (Wahl) Shute and Elmer Shute.  He was the husband of Barbara A Wahl of Charlestown.

Charles was a skilled professional who traveled for many years all over the United States and Europe, building and repairing printing presses for MAN Roland.  He was known for his attention to detail and his willingness to go the extra mile to get the job done right.

In his spare time, Charles had a passion for building big model train layouts.  He would spend hours creating buildings, tracks, bridges, mountains, grass, trees, houses, businesses and streets.  His train set took up an entire room in the house and was a sight to behold when everything lit up.

Charles was a devoted father to his daughter, Lori A Wahl of Charlestown (also his devoted caregiver). He was also survived by his loving dog, Teenie Wahl, grandsons Benjamin James of Hope Valley, and Elijah Dalton-Wahl of Charlestown, Kyle Wahl of Texas and Kurt Wahl of Florida, granddaughters Jennifer James of Hope Valley, Cassandra Wahl of Pawcatuck, and Kortni Hansen of Texas. He is also survived by his brothers Gary Shute of Coventry, Jay Shute of Maine, Cole Shute of Coventry, Daniel Shute of Arizona, Michael Shute of Maine, and sisters Robin Shute of Coventry and Patricia Shute Wing of Arizona,  Lisa Wahl of Providence, Erich Wahl of Texas and Linda Wahl of North Kingstown.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara A Wahl, his mother Mary Ann (Wahl) Shute of Maine, and father Elmer Shute of Coventry.

Charles will be remembered as the BEST Dad in the world and a hero to his daughter Lori.
