Louis J. Ritacco, 94, died peacefully on August 26, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Louis loved life and lived it well.
The son of the late Louis and Rose (Gaccione) Ritacco, Louis was born March 6, 1927, and raised in Westerly. He leaves his sister Anna Cardinali of Mystic and brother Anthony (Marypatricia) of Westerly; his companion Sally D’Angelo of Mystic and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a league of devoted friends. He was predeceased by his brother Joseph (Jeannette) of Minneapolis, MN.
A World War II Navy Veteran, he was fiercely proud of his service and loved his country.
The mould was broken when Lou was born. The quintessential godfather, he traveled with celebrities, landed airplanes in Las Vegas fields and enjoyed martini lunches at local casinos. He flew on the Concorde and visited the Vatican with his parents to meet Pope John Paul II.
Lou lived life to the fullest and never let grass grow beneath his feet. He loved his family and treasured time with them. Making sopressetta (soupy) in his basement kitchen was an annual event. He had a love of music and could often be seen driving through town singing. He claimed Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” as his theme song. Anyone who was fortunate enough to know him, knew he lived and loved until the end…his way.
A celebration of Louis’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at 11am at St Pius X Catholic Church, 44 Elm Street, Westerly. There are no calling hours. Burial with full military honors will take place at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly.
