Michelle L. Shaw

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michelle L. Shaw, aged 41, of Pendleton Hill Road, North Stonington, on the afternoon of Friday, March 22, 2024, at her residence. Born in Houston, TX, on May 26, 1982, she was the cherished daughter of David and Judy L. (Hunter) Shaw Jr.

Michelle's legacy is carried on by her ex-husband, Mark Drake, with whom she resided; her six remarkable children, Isaiah, Levi, Naomi, Priscilla, Gideon, and Josiah, all of North Stonington; her parents, David and Judy Shaw Jr of Effingham, NH; and her brother, Christopher D. Shaw (and wife Erin) of Manchester, NH and Aaron J. Shaw of Moultonborough, NH.

A 2001 graduate of The Community School in Tamworth, NH, Michelle then moved to RI, where she began the next chapter of her life. There, she married a wonderful man in 2004 and welcomed her first child in 2007. Michelle's most cherished role was that of a stay-at-home mother, taking great pride in homeschooling her children from 2012 before their transition to school in 2018.

Michelle embraced life's simple pleasures with open arms. Whether it was reading, writing, learning, sleeping under the stars, cuddling with her children, cooking inventive meals, gardening, spending time with her horses and dog, Rhythm, engaging in outdoor activities, practicing jiu-jitsu, or healing through reiki and yoga, she found joy in every moment. Her time was often spent in meaningful one-on-one moments with her children.

Known for her kindness, many future plans and unwavering positive outlook, Michelle touched many lives in a profound and positive way. Despite facing multiple cancer diagnoses, her strength, discipline, bravery, and deep faith in God were inspiring. She was a beacon of determination and intelligence, celebrated for being an incredible mother, an irreplaceable friend, sister, and daughter.

Michelle's presence deeply enriched the North Stonington community, and she will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving her.
